Currently there are four homes, each of which is a substantial family house with grounds, carefully chosen to give residents a comfortable home in a pleasant environment accessible to public services and social amenities. Each house has a high standard of decoration and good quality furnishings. The bedrooms are single rooms giving each resident a place of their own with their own identity.  Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and possessions to make their new home as comfortable as possible.

Contact with family members is regarded as extremely important and parents are encouraged to see their child’s departure from the family home as a positive step.  Households have staff coverage at all times and consciously aim to create a warm, friendly and lively atmosphere in which the residents and staff feel involved and flourish.

Differing levels of care ensure the correct support for the individual resident and although the homes operate independently - there are many opportunities for friendships to develop amongst the 51 residents of the homes.

Family Investment Homes offers places to adults with learning disabilities who are:

• Reasonably able to deal with their own basic needs.
• Able to fit socially into a community orientated household.
• Able to participate in an active day care programme.
• In need of some support and supervision.
• and over 19 years of age.

Each resident’s progress is reviewed regularly by staff and discussed with the individual.  The contribution of each individual is valued; all are encouraged to take an active role in the running of the house and views are aired at residents meetings.  Everyone, with the staff support, shares domestic chores.

Each property meets the stringent requirements of the Commission of Social Care Inspection, Fire Officer, Health and Safety and Environmental Health.
