Valley House, for 8 residents, is situated in the beautiful Elham Valley on the Elham Valley Vineyard and is convenient for trips to Canterbury and Folkestone.
Valley House is a well-established home for 8 residents and is situated on the Elham Valley Vineyard in the beautiful Elham Valley. The house is very conveniently placed for visits to local villages, Canterbury and Folkestone, with a bus route at the end of the drive. It is a very happy and cheerful home which is maintained to a standard which we would expect for any family member and where residents are treated as adults.
Each resident has their own bedroom with ensuite facilities. They share a dining room, sitting room and kitchen. Residents take turns, with staff support, to devise menus, cook supper and help with the cleaning. Some of the food is grown on the house’s allotment. A monthly meeting gives all residents a chance to air their opinions and contribute to family decisions as they continue to make advances in day-to-day skills and in co-operative, sociable living. With staff help, they learn to resolve problems and gain confidence as individuals and within the group.
In addition to the day activities programme, residents also enjoy many social activities. They visit the theatre and cinema, go to concerts and have excursions to places of interest, go out for meals – and to the pub – and frequently have parties! All residents go on shopping trips, both for personal items and also food shopping for the house. Local buses are used, with support if needed. Undertaking volunteer work is encouraged.
Sporting activities are also encouraged and residents go swimming, attend aerobics classes, visit the gym and go for walks if they wish. The house’s treadmill is in daily use. Some residents also are involved in local football training.
Valley House is an extremely happy home with the families and residents mixing socially. Parents keep involved in the running of the home through a Board of Directors elected from parents/siblings and families are kept up to date with happenings through a quarterly Newsletter.
